Selective Laser Sintering

SLS

Selective laser sintering is a powder-based 3D printing technology that uses a laser to fuse material layers into a final part. After the laser traces a cross-section of the CAD design(s) onto a material layer, the build platform lowers and another layer is fused on top. The build platform continues to lower until every layer is built and the part is complete.

Aarya Industries’ SLS materials include a range of optimized nylon and elastomeric powders.

  • Selective laser sintering is an additive manufacturing technology that uses a high power laser to sinter small particles of polymer powder into a solid structure based on a 3D model.
  • SLS is a relatively new technology that so far has mainly been used for rapid prototyping and for low-volume production of component parts.
  • It is proving to be increasingly popular with clients, as its potential applications widen. Many clients now use this additive manufacturing process for low volume production of components and as an alternative to traditional production methods which involve the need for tooling.

FAQ's on "Selective laser sintering"

Selective laser sintering is an additive manufacturing (AM) technology that uses a high power laser to sinter small particles of polymer powder into a solid structure based on a 3D model. SLS 3D printing has been a popular choice for engineers and manufacturers for decades.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is an additive manufacturing (AM) technique that uses a laser as the power source to sinter powdered material (typically nylon or polyamide), aiming the laser automatically at points in space defined by a 3D model, binding the material together to create a solid structure.

We offer SLS prototype parts using PA 2200 (base PA12) material. PA2200 is a fine, white powder with a well-balanced property profile that is ideal for a wide variety of applications.

The main laser parameters include wavelength, power, scanning speed, hatch distance, scan pattern, vector length [12], ratio of length to width [25], scan angle [25], beam spatial distribution [26], beam spot size [27], point overlapping [28], and continuous or pulsed laser operation.

Laser sintering <5 μm features with high throughput. The μ-SLS system employs an optical system for printing the desired patterns onto the substrate with a feature resolution better than 5 μm and a pixel resolution close to 1 μm.

SLS technology is ideal for creating highly complex parts since it does not require support structures, unlike SLA (stereolithography) and FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling). … Furthermore, with SLS technology, you can create parts and geometries that would otherwise be impossible with traditional manufacturing methods.

Selective laser sintering (SLS) is a powder-based fusion technology that uses a laser beam to locally sinter polymer powder to build parts layer by layer. … Unsintered powder remains in place to support subsequent layers eliminating the need for support structures.
